Construction of Meditation Facility

In May of 2009 the Edmonton Buddhist Research Institute was granted a Development Permit by the County of Westlock authorizing the change in use of land for Buddhist practice. The authorities also issued a Building Permit for the construction of the 6000 square foot meditation facility.

Immediately after permit approval a Breaking Ground Ceremony was held and construction of the facility began. It is composed of eight bedroom suites, 10 washrooms, a commercial kitchen, a dinning hall and a large, 2000 square foot Great Hall for meditation and service. The facility was completed at the end of 2009 with occupancy issued at the start of 2010.

This facility was designed and engineered to the latest Alberta Building Code requirements under the leadership of Bearden Engineering Ltd. It includes fire safety implementations, sound barriers between suites, and unobstructed access for people with limited mobility. The Westlock Meditation Center can accommodate large group gatherings and functions for both short and long term stays. Please click here to see photos.

The Meditation Facility is also available for booking at the discretion of the Institute. Buddhist groups, ecologically minded organizations, meditation seminars and practices are some of the groups that this facility would be a great fit for.
